OUR GASIFIER IS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND.

Our vetted technology cheaply, efficiently, and effectively converts residential waste into sellable electricity and biochar, while also producing a variety of environmental benefits.

GASIFIABLE MATERIALS

Kyklos' gasifier can handle almost all organic, or carbon-based, materials. This includes:

  • food waste

  • garden/yard waste

  • leather

  • textile waste

  • plastics

  • paper & cardboard.

MATERIALS FOR REMOVAL

Only very large pieces of inorganic, non-gasifiable materials need to be removed from the waste stream entering the gasifier. Materials to be removed include:

  • Glass

  • Metals

  • Building materials

  • Sand, soil, & stones

  • PVC

  • Concentrated wet waste

Smaller pieces of these non-gasifiables can pass through the system and do not need to be removed beforehand. Any wet waste that can be dried to <20% moisture can be gasified in the reactor as well.

OUR TECHNOLOGY OFFERS

6 NOVEL ADVANTAGES

Our Technology: Text

FLEXIBLE GASIFIER

processes heterogeneous materials

With over 30 years of R&D, our partners have unparalleled experience overcoming the biggest challenge of MSW gasification: keeping diverse materials flowing through the hopper simultaneously. A carefully tuned system of automated fans and vibrators, as well as a grate for char extraction, makes this possible.

MINIMIZED PRE-PROCESSING COSTS

almost no sorting, sizing, and drying of inputs

Because our gasifier can accommodate diverse inputs, taking in almost anything with <20% moisture, minimum pre-processing of the waste is necessary. Only large inorganics and highly concentrated wet waste must be removed from the waste stream. All other materials are simply cut down to size and dried out as needed.

NO WASTEWATER

cleaning syngas with high temperatures rather than water

Most gasifiers rain water through syngas to extract excess tars, producing a disgusting wastewater byproduct that is difficult to dispose of. We avoid this problem by instead "scrubbing" the gas by submitting it to high temperatures that burn away the tars. Dry cleaning the gas means no dirty water results.

HIGH OPERATIONAL RELIABILITY

allows for the removal of non-gasifiable materials from the hopper without jamming the gasifier

Some non-gasifiable materials will inevitably end up in gasifiers, and can cause jamming. Our gasifier avoids this problem through a joint water-locked and air-locked system for separating char and non-gasifiables. As the solids collect at the bottom of the hopper, larger non-gasifiable pieces are separated and fall into water-locked chambers; the char output is moved through a grate and airlocked before being cooled and removed.

MULTIPLE REVENUE STREAMS

green electricity, tipping fees, biochar output, and thermal recovery.

Our facility takes in revenue for both its input, in the form of tipping fees for waste handled, and its outputs—biochar, electricity, and thermal energy.

FLEXIBLE RANGE OF OUTPUT RATINGS
(1.5-150 KMTA/YR OF MSW)

can accommodate a range of municipalities

We offer several gasifier sizes, which can be run in parallel in a variety of combinations. This means that our system can be sized for a wide range of input tonnage and electricity output needs.
